put the tweeters in the right spot- you'll be happy!, December 25, 2011 By AA (Northern Illinois) - See all my reviews This review is from: Focal Polyglass 165 V30 6.5" 2-Way Component Speaker System (Electronics) After making a mistake with the first component speakers I purchased for my factory upgrade, I was very careful the next time around and wound up with the Focal 165 V30's in the front doors of my small SUV.
First off many people on various sites have commented that the tweeters on this set can be very bright, if not overly so. I have to say I agree with these thoughts- BUT you can turn this into a positive by placing the tweeters in the proper location.
If you see a Focal sound demo board, the tweeter is no further than 8 inches from the center of the woofer. This is done for a reason- so the sound remains in phase and properly balanced between the tweeter and the woofer.
If you place the tweeters too high or too far from the woofer, even when using the reduction settings, they will be too bright. Do NOT put them (for example) in the sail panels or upper door panel locations that many cars put them in these days.
